Tech's Grading Policy

In my science class, and most other 8th grade classes, your grade will be divided into three categories: Practice Assignments, Performance Assessments, and the Final Exam. Below are my guidelines.

    • Practice Assignments: 15%
    • Performance Assessments: 75%
    • Final Exam: 10%

Practice Assignments generally include anything we do in class or as homework and hand in. This might be daily assignments, writing assignments, bell ringers, exit tickets, etc. This will make up 15% of your grade. You will be assessed not only on correctness of the assignment, but also on the completion of the assignment by the appropriate due date. For practice assignments, students have 1 week from the original due date to turn in late practice/homework for half credit. After that, students will be given an ‘I’ for the practice/homework. Bell ringers/exit tickets can’t be made up.

Performance Assessments include final drafts of written assignments, tests, quizzes, and other summative assessments. This will make up 75% of your grade. See below for the retakes guidelines.

Final Exam: We will have a comprehensive final exam. It will make up 10% of your grade. There will not be a retake offered for the final exam.

Retakes, corrections, etc: Students have two weeks from the date the performance assessment grades are posted to complete one retake. Retakes for tests and quizzes will consist of a different format of the same content. Retakes for project-based assessments will include an additional component you will need to complete. Retakes are ONLY offered for performance assessments. Retakes are not allowed for practice assignments or the final exam.
